Access to computers

Access to computers is authenticated. Both staff and students should log on using their UWA number and Pheme password. A guest account is provided for users other than UWA staff and students.

  • UWA staff have unrestricted access to services and resources available on the internet.
  • UWA students have unrestricted access to services and resources available on the internet. For unrestricted access UWA students must enter their "full service" student account details when prompted.
  • Guests have unrestricted access to resources and selected websites only.

Software

Computers in libraries are IBM compatible PCs running the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system.  The following software is available for use on subject library computers:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser
  • Firefox web browser
  • Google Chrome web browser
  • Microsoft Office 2010 with Publisher
  • EndNote X8 (UWA staff and students only)
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • Media player compatible with the most common media types
  • Power DVD

In addition to the standard software above, the following are accessible on 8 multimedia computers housed in the Multimedia suite in the Barry J Marshall Library:

  • Adobe Creative Cloud Suite
  • Safari web browser
  • Opera web browser

This list is subject to change. 

SPSS is available on the student computers in Barry J Marshall Library Teaching Room 2 and selected student computers in the Reid Library Postgraduate Study Area. If all computers are in use, it is also available in selected computers labs in the School of Psychology and Sanders buildings.

RStudio is available on the student computers in Barry J Marshall Library Teaching Rooms 1 and 2. 

NVivo is available on the student computers in Beasley Law Library Training Room 1, Reid Library Training Room and selected student computers in the Reid Library Postgraduate Study Area..  

Library computers can read from CD-ROMs, DVDs and USB devices, and can save to USB devices.

You must save all documents to a removable drive or to your student network storage. You can temporarily save documents to the Documents folder while you are logged on to the computer.
