Navigational Tools

The content management system (CMS) makes a variety of navigational tools available via the choice of site or page design. Each of the navigational tools are breifly covered below. For further information on these navigation tools refer to the Site/Page Designs tutorial.

Drop Down menus (DD)

These only appear in a javascript enabled browser, but can provide immediate access to all pages of a website. By default DD appears as a horizontal bar across the screen immediately below the banner.

Site Map (SM)

The site map provides a graphical representation of the site structure inidicating the path used in order to reach the current page location. By default SM appears on the left hand side of the screen.

Page Lineage (PL)

The page lineage or breadcrumb navigation tool provides a path list indicated the heirarchy of pages above the current page. By default PL appears as a colon delimited list running across the top of the screen immediately below the banner.

Sub Page list (SP)

The sub page list appends a bulleted list of available subpages to the bottom of the page but immediately above the footer.

In order to ensure accessibility only particular combinations of these navigation tools are made available in designs.
