Web Site Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Security & availability

The University Website Office is responsible for ensuring the availability and security of the Content Management System (CMS).

Availability

The CMS is implemented on dedicated hardware with a range of backups and failovers in place:

  • The CMS servers are located in the University Communications Services  (UCS) data centre.
  • A spare machine is available in the event of failure.
  • An automatic failover switches in the event of failure without operator intervention.
  • The servers are included in UCS's nightly tape backups on a four week rotation.
  • Two scripts make backups of the CMS contents on an hourly basis in 48 hour rotation, and nightly with a 14 day rotation.
  • The servers are included in UCS's service monitoring.

Security

The CMS offers a range of security and access levels. Additional steps have been taken to secure the CMS servers.

  • UWA intranet specific sites are available.
  • Password protected sites and/or pages are available.

The CMS is not intended to host highly sensitive information that would otherwise be hosted on SSL secured servers.
