Web Site Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

I can't seem to attach a large file

There is a file size limit for attachments and it is currently set at 4.5Mb. If you have a requirement to serve larger files, the Website Office would be pleased to hear from you, but in most cases the information below has assisted web developers in delivering more effective solutions.

Forms and PDF documents

Sometimes it might be a form which you want users to print off and send back. Think about using the Custom Form Template.

The content of your attachment might be presented better as a MySource page. Just adding a document as an attachment might be convenient but it presents an additional barrier for your users to access the content.

The PDF format is no guarantee of accessibility and the Website Office recommends that any information contained in the PDF should be available in a MySource page too.

Audio, Video and other media formats

If you're planning at providing web visitors with access to multimedia via the web it's well worth considering the services provided by the Lectopia system. Streaming media offer significant advantages over static downloads and the Lectopia system can offer the added advantage of custom streams for differing bandwidth requirements.

PowerPoint presentations

PowerPoint presentations are often very large. These can be dramatically reduced in file size with a very simple process:

1) Go to any image in your PowerPoint presentation and right click. You'll see the pop up below.

2) Click the Compress button, you'll see the next pop up:

3) Change the resolution to Web/Screen and apply to all pictures in the document. Check the two options to Compress pictures and Delete cropped areas of pictures.

4) Press OK and save your document. You'll find its file size has reduced dramatically.
