ITS is responsible for the ongoing maintenance of the systems software on computers within UWA Administration. The installation of software on those computers can adversely effect the operation of the computer and the network. Besides the standard configuration, any extra software that is to be installed on a computer within the Administration systems must be authorised by ITS. To facilitate this the following information should be provided to ITS via email or hard copy from the section head.
Software UsageSome software can be purchased on a simultaneous usage licence. ITS has a facility to manage simultaneous usage and to enforce and report limits. Contact the ITS Service Desk for more details.
Software InstallationMachines are installed with a standard operating environment. Any software beyond this must be authorised by ITS. If ITS detects software that has been installed without authorisation it reserves the right to remove or disable the software. The request to install new software must include - The name of the person requesting the software
- Authorisation of the head of section for the software to be installed
- The purpose of the software
- The BU & PG to charge out
- The media for the software (CD etc)
- The Documentation and any contact information
- The list of the computers on which the software is to be installed
- The lifetime of the software
- Any issues that may effect the installation or safety of the systems that may be caused by the software
ITS reserves the right to refuse to authorise the installation of the software if we believe that the security of the PC or the network is likely to be compromised. If the software is installed it will be the head of the sections responsibility to ensure that - The ITS authorisation is kept in the department
- The media is kept in a safe place in the department
- The documentation is kept in a safe place in the department
- Funds are available for upgrading the software
- Funds are available for the training for the software
- ITS are informed if the software is transferred from one machine to another
Unless written a agreement is made, ITS will not be responsible for - The operation of the software
- The interaction of the software with other applications on the desktop or the server.
- The continuity of the software over patch or Operating System upgrades
- The backing up of the software and its associated data, unless the data is held on the servers
Desktop software upgradeTo avoid a situation where there are multiple versions of the software installed within the Administration network ITS and the owners will, on an annual basis, agree on the version of the software installed. ITS will be responsible for installing the new version of the software. |
