Troubleshooting Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do if my Word/Excel plays up?

Word or any other Office application may occasionally behave strangely, or freeze completely, and there are steps that may make recovery from this easier. Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete then click on the Task Manager. Move to the Application Tab, click on 'Winword' then click the 'End Task' button. Once Word has closed down, close the Task manager. Re-open the Word application from the Start menu, rather than trying to re-open the document that you had open. This is because after opening Word it will try to recover what you were last doing. If Word manages to recover your document you may find that it is missing formatting like Tables and Borders, however this is to be expected, and you can take this document and save it again, and then continue with your work.

If this problem persists you may need to contact the ITS Service Desk.
