Staff Mailing Lists

ITS maintains a number of emailing lists for use by UWA staff and students. Postings to many of these lists are archived and accessible via associated web pages.

Lists of students

There are facilities for emailing groups of students using their official UWA student addresses. Please see information and guidelines for student lists before attempting to use any of these facilities.

  • Emailing all students

Emails intended for all students must be approved first. For more information see Student Email Guidelines

  • Emailing groups of students

The new Class Email functionality has been incorporated into Staff Connect (staff web access to the Student Information Management System). This enables great flexibility in the selection of students (including the use of Person ID Groups and DIY selections) to be emailed. If you would like training or a demonstration of the new functionality, contact Grant Ferstat (SIMS Training Coordinator) on 6488 4238 or by email grant.ferstat@uwa.edu.au

The original Class Email System will continue to have limited support by ITS, however, it will be decommissioned later this year, therefore it is recommended that staff switch to the new functionality within Staff Connect.

ITS newsletters

ITS uses the mailing list IT-announcements to inform cyllene users of important information relating to that server. There is also an electronic Student News service that is displayed on the webmail entry page and also distributed to those students who have subscribed. For information on submitting an item to the Student News, please read the Guidelines for submitting items to Student News.

UWA mailing lists

There are several types of emailing lists with different subscription and maintenance methods.

These lists, which include the All Staff list, Academic Notices list and reference lists for Deans, Heads, Secretaries and other significant positions, are generated automatically every night using flags against individual entries in the UWA Directory. Requests for changes to any of these lists should be directed to directory@uwa.edu.au

Several mailing lists have been created for different University purposes. Staff may request a list which will be set up and which they subsequently manage themselves. The software, Mailman, used for these lists, has a web-based administration interface so that the list, once created, is easily managed by the requestor.
