Changing Your Cyllene Password

Find out what to do if you have forgotten your password.

Introduction

It is very important that you keep your password secure.

The link following will take you to the Cyllene password change page.

Choosing a New Password

It is extremely important to realise that passwords are CASE SENSITIVE. ie. If you place an upper case letter within the password, that letter MUST be typed as upper case when logging on in the future.

General Guidelines

  • Cyllene passwords should have EXACTLY 8 characters. Note that only 8 are stored: the system will not stop you entering more than 8, but will just ignore the extra characters. However, you may subsequently find that some applications will give a login error if you enter more than 8, because they accept them all and then the password they present to cyllene does not match the 8-character one that is stored. If you have problems with a long password, you can usually successfully connect by entering only the first 8 characters.

  • The new password must be different from the old.

  • The system will not allow a password which it thinks is too simple. You must use a mixture of character types (upper and lower case, digits, punctuation) with a least 2 different from the others.

  • Avoid spaces, colons and control characters - although allowable on the host, they can cause problems with some programs. For example, you will be unable to log in to MySource using your Cyllene password if it contains a ' (apostrophe), a " (quote mark) or a \ (backslash).

  • Do NOT use dictionary or other common list words. 4 consecutive letters which form a dictionary word may generate the "dictionary word" error.

  • Avoid known sequences of characters (e.g.qwertyui)

  • Avoid anything that relates to you personally.

  • Do NOT use the side numeric keypad for digits when setting or entering passwords. The electronic rendering of these number keys is different from the numbers above the alpha keys, causing problems if you attempt to enter the password on another computer.

VERY IMPORTANT - Notes for Users

NOTE ALSO: There will probably be a delay before your new password is updated for systems such as registering for a SNAP account, using the UWA Proxy and using the UWA Dial up service. You may need to continue using the OLD password for a short period (usually within the half hour), accessing mail should use the NEW password immediately.
